1970: Founded in 1970 by Jesse E. Cleland, the company specialized in the residential clearing and grading market and maintained about 12-15 employees. Working part-time during school and full time during the summer since his father started the company, son Avery E. Cleland learned the business first hand and took over as President in 1984.
1996: Avery E. Cleland became sole owner of the firm and moved into commercial site work construction. Since then, the company has experienced substantial growth and diversified into the utility, demolition, commercial and residential clearing and grading markets. The company has been deeply involved in the development of the Hilton Head Island area and the outlying South Carolina coastal area. Cleland has done the site work and clearing for most of the major residential as well as commercial developments in the area.
1996-2000: Cleland Site Prep has been instrumental in the development of many notable projects around Hilton Head Island. These include: Hilton Head Plantation, Indigo Run Plantation, and the Hilton Head Cultural Center as well as site work for numerous hotels, banks, and shopping centers. Cleland has grown with the surrounding area and currently employees over 100 employees, while continuously expanding.
2001-present: Cleland Site Prep recently moved its offices from Hilton Head Island to Hardeeville, South Carolina. The ever-improving team of Project Managers, Engineers, Estimators, Superintendents, and Foremen has the knowledge and resources to provide clients with an outstanding site work package. Current projects include commercial and residential sites in South Carolina and Georgia.
